Presidents Message

To All Alumni

First, I would like to thank all who helped with homecoming festivities this past year.  Homecoming was the best we have had lately.  We didn’t have the attendance that we have had in the past due to gas prices and the economy, but those who came seemed to have a great time.  Ben Currin’s band put on a great show at the dance and we even broke even on the finances.  The golf tournament raised $24,000 for the home for the most that we have ever raised.

The children’s Christmas party was an exceptional affair.  They received clothes, shoes, suits, games, socks, shirts, ties, deodorant, gift cards, blankets, candy and a few toys.  My son Alex and some of his friends gave numerous clothes and gifts.  Tommy Dew also gave them many, many gifts.  We even had money left over to apply toward next year.  I would personally thank all who donated for helping those six children have a wonderful Christmas.  They were very appreciative of the many gifts they received.  I have a few pictures for the Spotlight concerning this affair.

After the golf tournament, Stovall’s Gifts at 100 Main Street in Oxford, had a wine tasting and snacks for all participants in their store.  They are planning another this coming year from 1:00 to 5:00.  I went this past homecoming and enjoyed it very much, so plan to attend this year if you can.  The city of Oxford is also having The North Carolina Hot Sauce Contest on September 12th from 11:00 to 3:00 in downtown Oxford.  Last year it was the top rated event in the state, so if you live in the surrounding area, plan to attend and enter your sauce.  Go to www.nchotsaucecontest.com for more on this event.

We are planning on this homecoming being better than ever, with the luncheon at the spring on Saturday, the roast on Saturday night and Ben Currin’s band being back again for the dance again.  So put this on your calendar to attend on October 9th, 10th,and 11th.  We have lost a lot of friends and Orphan brothers and sisters this past year, so please make every effort to be here.  It might be the last for many of us due to many health problems.

Your board is working hard for you so if you can help, let us know.

Sincerely

David Bryant

Playing at the Homecoming Dance
Next Year Also, October  2009
Granville County Shrine Club

The Konnection Band was formed with one main objective, to put together a band that played a variety of music that people could dance to, be it rock, funk, R&B, beach or country, and do it with integrity.

We are hoping that by using a live band this year, we will inspire more participation at our Homecoming dance.  It has been falling off the last few years and we want everyone to come out, have fun, socialize and shake a leg for old time sake.

We hope to see you there.
